Clothing measurements

Rise

The distance from the crotch seam to the top of the waistband, which decides where pants sit on the body.

Front rise is measured from the crotch seam up the front to the top of the waistband; back rise is measured up the back, and is usually longer.

Rise is why pants are described as low-rise, mid-rise or high-rise. Two pairs with the same waist and inseam can fit very differently if their rise is different.
