Vanity sizing
Labelling clothes with a smaller size than their measurements would traditionally correspond to.
With vanity sizing, a garment marked size 8 might measure like a larger size from another brand or an older chart. It's one reason the same person can wear different sizes in different brands.
A size chart with real measurements solves the problem, because shoppers can compare numbers instead of labels.
